Comprehensive Eye Examination with South Molton Eyecare

At South Molton Eyecare we will carefully question you about your eyes, health and specific visual needs. Our eye examinations are thorough and last approximately 45 minutes.

Eye Examination

• History and Symptoms
• Ophthalmoscopy (internal eye check)
• Refraction (checking your prescription)
• Intra-ocular pressures (checking eye pressure)
• OCT Scan (Recommended) Learn more about OCT scans
• Fields Test (if required)
• Results and Recommendations
• Referral for further investigation if required
• Nutritional advice for healthy eyes and tears

Our Optometrist will recommend any additional tests should they be required.

For some patients the NHS provide a routine eye examination once every two years, unless you have been advised by an Optometrist to have one more frequently or you are having visual symptoms. See below for eligibility.

• You are under 16
• You are 16,17 or 18 in full-time education
• You are 60 and over
• You are registered as sight impaired or seriously sight impaired
• You have been diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma
• You are over 40 and your mother, father, sibling or child has been diagnosed with glaucoma
• You have been advised by an ophthalmologist that you’re at risk of glaucoma
• You are a prisoner on leave from prison
• You have a complex prescription
• You or your partner receives Income Support
• You or your partner receives Income- based Jobseekers Allowance
• You or your partner receives Income- based Employment and Support Allowance

• You or your partner receives Tax Credits and are named on a valid NHS Tax Credit exemption certificate
• You or your partner receive Universal Credit
• You have a HC2 certificate
